Voice

`What is Voice?

Voice: sound produced in a person's larynx and uttered through mouth, as speech or song

Today we stared our new unit on voice. Voice is very important in drama because it allows you to express and represent what you are trying to portay with accuracy, also without voice your presentation wont be as good or as interesting as it could be.

Key elements of Voice

Projection: increasement of volume in your voice, allows you to be heard effectively

Articulation/Enunciation: prononciation of words clearly and slowly, allows others to hear what you are trying to say without any problems

Volume: as a class we did an activity were we had to say a sentence with different settings ex in a library, person ten feet away etc, this showed how voice has power it can have different messages and meanings

Expression: the way you express voice can change the message your trying to get ex from happy to sad, sarcasm to honesty

Force: volume, attack and intensity. Importance of thoughts, feelings expressed by the amount of tone used, possible to change meaning of sentence by emphasis of different

To learn voice and understand the importance, we have done many different games and activities. One of these activities included repeating sentences in different accents. This allowed us to try different accents and change our voice. We also played a game where everyone in our class closed their eyes, while our teacher chose one student to say something in an accent. We then had to guess who was saying it and what accent they were saying it in. This was to help us practice masking our own voice with another accent and successfully perform an unknown accent.

My Favourite assignment so far of this unit is the most recent, we had to choose a clip from a movie or tv show and act it. My group chose Dumb and Dumber, from this i learned that tone, expression and amplification of voice is the key to a great performance.

For our final assignment of voice my teacher said we had to create a recording our voice from our own script or anything we could find. Me and my partner chose to write our own news report, our teacher wanted us to see if we could change our voice sound like our topic, this is important in voice because without the ability to change your according to ur character you would not be appealing and it wouldn't look normal
